Sanga Language Project (XSNEBL)

Overview

The Sanga Language Project contains Scripture portions (Matthew and Luke) in the Sanga language (ISO 639-3: xsn), an East Kainji language of Nigeria belonging to the Shammo cluster within the Niger-Congo family. The translation was produced by the Luke Initiative for Scripture Translation (LIST), a non-denominational Bible translation organization in Nigeria that began as a Luke Partnership program in June 2004 and registered under its current name in 2014. [1] The Sanga people number approximately 41,000 and inhabit areas across Bauchi State (Toro LGA), Plateau State (Bassa LGA), and Kaduna State (Lere and Sanga LGAs), occupying a strategic location at the crossroads of three Nigerian states. [2] The language is used as a first language by all members of the ethnic community. [2] Bible portions in Sanga became available in 2022, with The Seed Company listed as a contributing partner. [2]
