Alcozauca Mixtec New Testament — Wycliffe Edition (XTAWBT)

Overview

The Alcozauca Mixtec New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into Mixtec of Alcozauca (Xochapa), a variety of Mixtec spoken in the Guerrero highlands of Mexico, published in 2005 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Audio recordings of the New Testament in this dialect were produced in 2007, also by Wycliffe. This edition is the primary Wycliffe translation for the Alcozauca Mixtec speech community and is available with synchronized audio and text. [1]

Language and People

Alcozauca Mixtec (ISO 639-3: xta) is spoken in the municipality of Alcozauca de Guerrero and surrounding communities in the Mixteca region of Guerrero, Mexico. It belongs to the Oto-Manguean language family within the Mixtecan branch. Like all Mixtec languages, Alcozauca Mixtec is a tonal language with significant dialectal diversity; communities only a few kilometers apart may speak varieties that are not mutually intelligible. The autonym used in the region is Mixteco (more locally, Xochapa).

Relationship to XTATNB

A separate earlier entry (XTATNB) exists for the Alcozauca Mixtec language with the title El Nuevo Testamento Mixteco de Diuxi y Tilantongo, dated 2005 — however, that title appears to reflect a different Mixtec variety (Mixtec, Diuxi-Tilantongo, ISO xtd) mislabeled under the xta code, or an alternative edition. The XTAWBT entry represents the authoritative Wycliffe publication specifically for Alcozauca Mixtec (xta, Xochapa).
