Las Delicias Zapotec New Testament — Mitla Studios (ZCDMIT)
Overview
The Las Delicias Zapotec New Testament is an audio Scripture translation in Zapotec of Las Delicias, produced by Mitla Studios for distribution through Faith Comes By Hearing and Bible.is. Mitla Studios is a Mexican Christian media production organization based in the Oaxacan region that specializes in producing audio and visual Bible content for indigenous Zapotec communities, including multiple varieties of Zapotec that differ significantly from one another. [1]
Language and People
Las Delicias Zapotec (ISO 639-3: zcd) is a distinct Zapotec variety spoken in the Las Delicias area of Oaxaca, Mexico. Zapotec is a branch of the Oto-Manguean language family, and the Zapotec languages — comprising dozens of mutually unintelligible varieties — are among the most linguistically diverse groups in Mesoamerica. Each village variety often requires its own translation effort, as dialects separated by only short distances may be entirely unintelligible to one another. The Las Delicias variety is one of the lesser-documented Zapotec languages of Oaxaca. [2]
Translation and Publisher
Mitla Studios produces Scripture audio content for several Zapotec varieties and is named for the ancient Zapotec archaeological site of Mitla, near Tlacolula, Oaxaca. In addition to the Las Delicias Zapotec audio Bible, audio recordings through the Global Recordings Network provide supplementary evangelism content in the language. The primary format of this edition is audio, reflecting both the largely oral culture of the community and the challenges of developing a standardized writing system for a small, underdocumented Zapotec variety.
