Zapoteco de Coatlán New Testament (2015) (ZPTWBT)

Overview

The San Vicente Coatlán Zapotec New Testament was translated by John and Linda Wagner, Wycliffe Bible Translators, who began serving in Mexico in 1996 and spent approximately 20 years with the community. [1] Since there were no written materials in the language, John developed a writing system and created literacy materials. Bible portions were completed by 2008, and the full New Testament was published in 2015. [1] John Wagner also authored linguistic publications on the language, including studies of its pronoun system, which features distinctive formal and familiar dual inclusive forms. [2] San Vicente Coatlán Zapotec is spoken by approximately 3,380 people in the Ejutla District, about 90 km south of Oaxaca City. [3]
