The Netherlands, officially the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a country located in Northwestern Europe. The official language is Dutch, spoken by approximately 90% of the population as of 2021. Dutch serves as the primary language for government administration, formal education, and nationwide communication. Other widely spoken languages include Frisian, which is recognized as a regional language and spoken by around 4% of the population, mainly in the province of Friesland. Dutch dialects such as Limburgish and Brabantian are spoken in specific regions. English is widely spoken as a second language, with around 90% of the population proficient in English, making the Netherlands one of the most English-proficient non-native countries in the world. German and French are also spoken by significant portions of the population as second languages.
