The United States of America, commonly referred to as the United States or America, is a country primarily located in North America. English is the de facto official language, spoken by the majority of the population as of 2021. English serves as the primary language for government administration, formal education, and nationwide communication. The United States is linguistically diverse, with a significant number of residents speaking languages other than English at home. Spanish is the most widely spoken non-English language, followed by Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Arabic, among others. The country is also home to numerous indigenous languages spoken by Native American communities.
