Chru New Testament (CJEWBT)
Overview
The Chru New Testament was published in 2015 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Chru (also spelled Chu Ru or Choru) is a Malayo-Polynesian, Chamic language closely related to Cham, Jarai, Rade, and Roglai, and is spoken primarily in Lâm Đồng and Bình Thuận provinces in Vietnam's southern Central Highlands and coastal zones. [2] The Churu people, numbering approximately 23,242 according to the 2019 Vietnamese census, trace their origins to the ancient Cham civilization; village elders in Lâm Đồng recount that their ancestors were descendants of the Cham royal family who fled to the highlands following the fall of Vijaya in 1471. [3] Use of Chru is gradually declining as speakers shift to Vietnamese in schools and public life. [2]
