New Oromo Contemporary Latin Version (GAZBIBL)

Overview

The New Oromo Contemporary Latin Version (GAZBIBL) is a full Bible in West Central Oromo (Afaan Oromoo) published by Biblica, Inc. in 2022, rendered in the Qubee (Latin) script. [1] It is the Latin-script companion to GAZBIB, which uses Ethiopic (Ge'ez) script. The Oromo language has been written in both Ethiopic and Latin scripts historically; the Latin-based Qubee alphabet was formally adopted in 1991 and has since become widely used for Oromo literacy and education. [2] Earlier Oromo Bible translations, beginning with Onesimos Nasib's 1899 complete Bible, were produced in Ethiopic script, with the first Qubee edition of the modern translation appearing in 1997. [2] This 2022 Biblica edition provides a contemporary-language Bible for the large Oromo-speaking population across Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Eritrea.
