Gbe, Defi (also called Gbe, Setto) is one of the many Gbe language varieties of Benin, spoken by approximately 29,000 people. The Gbe languages form a dialect continuum stretching across Benin, Togo, and Ghana — encompassing Ewe, Fon, Gen, and dozens of smaller varieties — but individual communities often cannot access scripture in their specific dialect. Wycliffe Benin has prioritised several of these under-resourced Gbe communities, producing oral Bible recordings through partnership with Faith Comes By Hearing. The audio New Testament for Gbe, Defi, distributed, represents the primary scripture resource for Defi speakers, a community with no reported print Bible translation. This recording gives the community access to the life and teaching of Jesus in the language of their hearts.
