San Juan Colorado Mixtec New Testament (MJCWBT)

Overview

New Testament in Mixtec, San Juan Colorado (MX:mjc:Mixtec, San Juan Colorado). The San Juan Colorado Mixtec New Testament was originally published in 1994 by Liga Biblica (now Liga Biblica Internacional), a Bible translation publishing organization active in Mexico [1]. The vernacular title of the translation is "Tuhun tsaa tsa nacoo jutu mani yo Jesucristo tsi yo." San Juan Colorado Mixtec is a Mixtecan language of the Oto-Manguean family, spoken by approximately 5,500 to 7,800 people in the towns of San Juan Colorado and San Pedro Atoyac in the district of Jamiltepec, on the Pacific coast of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico [2][3]. Like other Mixtec languages, it is tonal, meaning that pitch distinctions are phonemic [3]. The translation was later made available digitally through Wycliffe Bible Translators, with audio recordings for select books including John, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, and 1, 2, and 3 John featuring synchronized text highlighting [4].
