Lithuania, officially the Republic of Lithuania, is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. It is one of three Baltic states and lies on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. It shares borders with Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast to the southwest. Covering an area of approximately 65,300 square kilometers, Lithuania has a population of about 2.8 million people as of 2023. The capital and largest city is Vilnius. The official language is Lithuanian. Lithuania operates as a semi-presidential republic. The economy is classified as high-income, with key sectors including information technology, biotechnology, and manufacturing. Lithuania is known for its rich cultural heritage, medieval architecture, and as the geographical center of Europe. The country is a member of international organizations such as the European Union, the United Nations, NATO, and the Schengen Area.
