Serbia, officially the Republic of Serbia, is a landlocked country situated in Southeast Europe, in the central and western part of the Balkan Peninsula. Covering an area of approximately 88,361 square kilometers, it has a population of about 6.7 million as of 2023. The capital and largest city is Belgrade. The official language is Serbian. Serbia operates as a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic. The economy is classified as upper-middle-income, with key sectors including manufacturing, services, agriculture, and energy. Serbia is known for its rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and diverse landscapes ranging from plains to mountains. The country is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and is a candidate for membership in the European Union.
