Tuvalu is an island country in the Pacific Ocean, situated between Hawaii and Australia. It consists of three reef islands and six true atolls, with a total land area of about 26 square kilometers, making it the fourth smallest country in the world by land area. Tuvalu has a population of approximately 11,900 people as of 2021. The capital is Funafuti, which is also the largest city. The official languages are Tuvaluan and English. Tuvalu operates as a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy, recognizing the British monarch as head of state, represented locally by a Governor-General. The economy is small and primarily based on subsistence agriculture, fishing, remittances from overseas workers, and revenues from its internet domain .tv. Tuvalu is known for its low-lying atolls, making it particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and rising sea levels. The country is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, the Pacific Islands Forum, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
